Finally, I’ve got a chance to read this graphic novel! When the time it was released; many of my bookworm friends were reading this, that’s why I got curious at this book that time. But, I’m not that person that would jump easily on the new releases, sometimes I wait for the right timing to finally read newly released books. So, I decided to finally give this graphic novel a chance because faith suddenly gives me a hint that I should read now. Which is now I’m in the phase of reviewing it because I finally follow the signs that destiny gives me. And, I don’t know how I excited I am because I will now share with you my experiences while reading this adorable book.
Nimona wants to be a sidekick of a famous villain in their village, a villain with a good heart. Nimona has a capability of shapeshifting which Lord Ballister decided to accept her as his sidekick, and then their exciting adventures became to start.
To be honest, sometimes I have the trouble of understanding the flow of the story in some of the graphic novels I read because when you are reading a graphic novel, aside from the words, you also need to see the pictures inside of it so you can grasp the flow of it. But Nimona by Noelle Stevenson was not that hard to devour, and you can easily follow the flow of its story.
The colors and pictures inside were good, but the cons side, the words were not clearly visible because I need to zoom some of the words, so I can understand what the characters were saying. For the story, there were mysteries and adventures built in it that you will crave for more. For the characters Nimona and Lord Ballister, their characters want to convey that you don’t need to be anybody’s hero to accept by the others, you just need to accept yourself first, and eventually, others will follow.
There was depth in the story that you wouldn’t notice easily, because of how great the pictures. But in the end, all of those will show and will sink into your heart and mind.
A very well recommended book, indeed!
The graphic novel debut from rising star Noelle Stevenson, based on her beloved and critically acclaimed web comic, which Slate awarded its Cartoonist Studio Prize, calling it “a deadpan epic.”
Nemeses! Dragons! Science! Symbolism! All these and more await in this brilliantly subversive, sharply irreverent epic from Noelle Stevenson. Featuring an exclusive epilogue not seen in the web comic, along with bonus conceptual sketches and revised pages throughout, this gorgeous full-color graphic novel is perfect for the legions of fans of the web comic and is sure to win Noelle many new ones.
Nimona is an impulsive young shapeshifter with a knack for villainy. Lord Ballister Blackheart is a villain with a vendetta. As sidekick and supervillain, Nimona and Lord Blackheart are about to wreak some serious havoc. Their mission: prove to the kingdom that Sir Ambrosius Goldenloin and his buddies at the Institution of Law Enforcement and Heroics aren’t the heroes everyone thinks they are.
But as small acts of mischief escalate into a vicious battle, Lord Blackheart realizes that Nimona’s powers are as murky and mysterious as her past. And her unpredictable wild side might be more dangerous than he is willing to admit.
